Amina Ibrahim, a 14-year-old student from Yandaka Community in Kaita Local Government Area, was one of the beneficiaries of the Menstrual Hygiene Management sensitization program conducted by Community Care and Development Initiative for Humanitarian Support on 13th May 2026.
Before attending the sensitization session, Amina had very little knowledge about menstruation and proper menstrual hygiene practices. Like many adolescent girls in her community, she often felt shy, confused, and uncomfortable discussing menstrual health issues. Due to inadequate information and lack of access to sanitary materials, she sometimes missed school during her menstrual period because of fear of embarrassment and poor hygiene management.
During the sensitization program, Amina actively participated in the discussions, practical demonstrations, and question-and-answer sessions. She learned about the importance of personal hygiene, the proper use and disposal of sanitary pads, and how menstruation is a normal biological process that should not be associated with shame or stigma.
At the end of the program, Amina expressed happiness and confidence, stating that the knowledge gained had changed her perception about menstruation. She also appreciated the distribution of sanitary materials, which would help her manage her menstrual period more safely and comfortably.
Following the sensitization, Amina shared the knowledge she gained with her younger sisters and friends, encouraging them to maintain proper hygiene practices. She also became more confident in attending school during her menstrual cycle without fear or shame.
